Mental performance coaching uses sport psychology principles to help performers improve the mental aspect of their game. Sport psychology professionals work with athletes, musicians, pilots, business executives, surgeons, etc. to help them identify areas of their mental game that need some training or different approaches. We are not therapists; only specialized professionals called "sport psychologists" can address performance issues and mental health concerns. We often address performance anxiety, mental aspects of injury, confidence, self-talk, visualization, motivation, relaxation, or goal-setting.

At Pivot Sport Psychology Consulting, we will work together to help you find places where your mental game needs to pivot. You will learn how to steadily make those changes so that your mental game is more grounded yet mobile (like a pivot) and your overall performance improves. The process of mental performance coaching is highly interactive regardless of the type of pivoting you decide to try. You can expect to learn new terms and skills and will have exercises to try the new approaches you learn.

Mentoring

Mentorship is a developmental relationship between a mentor and a mentee with the purpose of enhancing the mentee’s professional functioning and monitoring the mentee’s provision of services. One specific goal of this type of mentoring is to assist individuals who are seeking the CMPC credential through AASP.

As a Certified Mental Performance Consultant ®, I have worked with athletes, coaches, teams, and business professionals. Some have been youths just starting their competitive sports journey; others have been working toward professional sports. I’ve worked with athletes in softball, baseball, basketball, soccer, volleyball, lacrosse, weightlifting, martial arts, e-sports, and winter sports. My work with these performers has focused on self-confidence, performance anxiety, plateaus in work or motivation, energy management, emotional agility, physical relaxation, and returning to play after injuries. I use a combination of coaching and instructional techniques to help performers improve their mental game, practice mental training more effectively and consistently, and enhance their self-belief.

In addition to mental performance coaching, I am a professor of exercise science. I have an M.S. in sport psychology and a Ph.D. in health psychology. I have a background in martial arts, have a 6th degree black belt. I am a registered mentor through Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP) for individuals seeking the CMPC.
